Watching a loved one battle cancer is an experience that evokes emotions beyond words. For me, that journey has been deeply personal. My father was not only my best friend but also a role model, mentor, and unwavering source of support. His kindness, understanding, and unconditional love shaped who I am today. When he lost his battle with cancer, my world was profoundly changed. Processing the loss and grappling with the question of "why" took years, but it also ignited a passion within me—a drive to share my journey, educate others, and contribute to meaningful change in the fight against cancer.
The Challenge to Conquer Cancer (C3) has provided me with an incredible platform to make a tangible impact in the cancer community. Through C3, we are advancing cancer research, promoting proactive care, and supporting those affected by this disease, including critical aftercare services. The ripple effect of this work is evident, as hospitals and affiliates outside of Greenville, South Carolina, are now adopting practices inspired by Prisma Health’s achievements. This progress is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared purpose.
C3 is more than an organization—it is a community, an army of dedicated individuals united by a common mission. Every contribution, whether through participation or donation, helps pave the way for a brighter future. The funds we raise support groundbreaking research tailored to individual DNA and foster proactive care that saves lives. Cancer’s impact is far-reaching, touching families, friends, and communities in ways that leave lasting marks. C3 allows me to channel my grief, anxiety, and hope into action, enabling me to contribute to a cause that resonates deeply in my heart.
The annual event is not just about the ride or the miles traveled to Maine. It’s about spreading awareness of the organization’s broader mission. C3 is a growing network of support, offering guidance and resources to individuals and families navigating the challenges of cancer. From understanding which questions to ask to identifying the right doctors and resources, C3 is there when cancer disrupts lives.
Each year, I find renewed motivation to participate. It’s difficult to articulate, but C3 represents a unique blend of hard work, joy, encouragement, pain, love, and dedication. It embodies the spirit of the doctors, nurses, and countless individuals affected by cancer who inspire us to keep moving forward.
This year, I had the honor of nominating a Warrior, Logan Luck, who was diagnosed at the age of 15 with a rare brain tumor. Logan, now 22, recently graduated from Culinary School in Cincinnati, and his journey is nothing short of extraordinary. His positivity and resilience are deeply inspiring. Logan’s family’s experience mirrors the challenges faced by so many, and I believe their involvement with C3 will be transformative—for them and for the organization. Our connection is serendipitous; Logan’s father, Paul, and my husband are fraternity brothers, and we’ve followed their updates over the years. Since moving to Cincinnati, we’ve had the privilege of reconnecting with their family. My hope in nominating Logan is to inspire younger generations to engage with C3 and to help his family and friends understand the profound impact of this organization.
In closing, I invite you to reflect on this: Have you ever wanted to make a difference in something you’re passionate about? While cancer itself is not contagious, the acts of giving, praying, and supporting one another certainly are. Whether you choose to contribute through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for taking the time to read my message. My passion for changing the future of cancer and treatment is fueled by the support of friends like you.
Together, we can create a future where cancer no longer takes so much from us.
